A man was charged after he allegedly tried to rob a gas station Tuesday in northwest suburban Elgin.

Officers responded to a report of an attempted robbery at 3:51 a.m. at Shell gas station, 300 S. State Street, according to a statement from Elgin police. Investigators were told a man entered the gas station and demanded money while concealing his face. The gas station clerk, who was behind protective glass, called police and the man fled.

Joseph Linzy III, 24, of the 1300 block of Rebecca Drive in Hoffman Estates, was charged with a felony count of armed robbery after he was taken into custody by police in the first block of National Street, police said.
