The Western Avenue bridge over the Sanitary and Ship Canal will be closed for maintenance for the next two weekends, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation.

Western Avenue will be closed from 11:59 p.m. Friday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday between 31st and 35th, according to CDOT.

The road will be open to traffic during the week, then close again for work between Aug. 27 and 28.

The construction is for necessary maintenance of the bridge structure, according to CDOT.

Drivers should use Cermak to Ashland to Archer as a detour route.
