Authorities are offering $25,000 for information leading to an arrest of the person who beat a 46-year-old woman to death Monday night in north suburban Zion.

Officers were called at 9:48 p.m. Monday about a battery near Cancer Treatment Centers of America at 27th Street and Gabriel Avenue, according to a statement from Zion police.

They arrived to find the 46-year-old woman suffering severe head trauma.

The suspect had approached her on the sidewalk while she was sitting outside cancer center, and struck her in the head with an unknown object, police said.

Shannon Vincel of Springfield, Missouri, was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she died at 11:02 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Police did not have a good description of the suspect.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America has pledged $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for Vincel’s death, police announced Thursday.

Zion police and the Lake County Major Crime Task Force are investigating. Anyone with information should call police at (847) 872-8000, or Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222.
