For the third year in a row, Lucas Smeds of Northbrook caught a 47-inch northern pike on a Canadian trip to Wollaston Lake Lodge.

This catch came on July 31. The annual trip included himself, his father and paternal grandfather. Their usual guide, Spencer Merlo, is holding the pike.

“I’m very proud of him and loved seeing the expression on his face after he landed it,’’ his father Brad said.

FOTW, the celebration of big fish and good stories, runs Wednesdays on the Sun-Times outdoors page. The story part matters as much as the big fish part.
