A 54-year-old man died Sunday evening after being shot in the head in northwest Indiana.

Christopher E. Mason suffered a gunshot wound to the head in the 2100 block of West 15th Street in Gary, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Mason, who lived in the 1400 block of West 16th Avenue, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead at 6:31 p.m. Sunday, the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy Thursday ruled his death a homicide.

Additional information on the shooting was not immediately available from Gary police Thursday afternoon.
