A clerk was pepper-sprayed during an armed robbery Wednesday night at a gas station in north suburban Waukegan.

About 9 p.m., two males wearing masks and armed with handguns entered the Shell station in the 2700 block of Washington Street and demanded cash, according to Waukegan police.

One of the suspects pepper sprayed the clerk, who was not seriously injured, police said.

The suspects ran away after the robbery, police said. One was described as 5-foot-8 and skinny, and the other was described as 6-foot and heavy.
