A 21-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were shot early Sunday in the University Village neighborhood on the Near West Side.

The two victims were standing on the street in the 1200 block of West Washburn at 4:01 a.m. when a vehicle drove by and someone in the backseat fired shots, according to Chicago Police.

The woman was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said. The man was shot in the left leg and was also taken to Stroger, where his condition was stabilized.
