A woman driving an SUV sustained severe injuries Monday afternoon after being struck by a semi tractor-trailer in Crystal Lake, police said.

About 3:52 p.m., a semi tractor-trailer heading westbound on Route 176 did not stop at a red light on Briarwood Road, according to Crystal Lake Police. Driving through the intersection, the semi tractor-trailer struck an SUV heading southbound on Briarwood Road.

The woman driving the SUV was flown from the scene to an area hospital with “severe” injuries. The driver of the semi tractor trailer was uninjured, police said.

The intersection of Route 176 and Briarwood Road remained closed as of Thursday evening, police said.
