A man was killed in a shooting Friday evening in the West Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

Miles Alexander Kent, 26, was sitting in a white vehicle parked in the 7600 block of South Lafeyette Avenue at 5:24 p.m. Friday when he was shot in the chest, shoulder and leg, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The vehicle had previously been reported stolen.

Kent, who lived in the 8000 block of South Buffalo, was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:33 p.m., authorities said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Police said the shooting happened a narcotics transaction.

The medical examiner’s office initially identified the man as 25-year-old Christopher Kent, but corrected the name Thursday. An explanation for the change was not provided.
