A vehicle was hit by gunfire early Friday on Interstate 57 in south suburban Matteson.

Shortly after midnight, a woman was driving north on the highway when her car was shot between the U.S. Route 30 and Vollmer Road exits, according to Illinois State Police. She was not hurt.

Northbound traffic was shut down between 1:15 a.m. and 4 a.m. as troopers canvassed the highway and found six shell casings, state police said.

The woman didn’t see the shooter, state police said.
