A 25-year-old man was struck and killed by a semi on the Edens Expressway in north suburban Northfield after he had stopped when his motorcycle hit a deer, according to Illinois State Police.

About 12:20 a.m. Thursday, the motorcycle and another vehicle hit a deer in the southbound lanes of I-94 near Willow Road, state police said.

The motorcyclist, identified as Huzefa Ukani, stopped, got off his bike and was walking along the expressway when a semi hit him and then kept driving, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Ukani, of the 10000 block of North Frontage Road in Skokie, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he later died of multiple injuries. His death was ruled an accident, authorities said.

The deer was also killed.

All southbound lanes of the Edens were closed after the crash as officers investigated, but they were reopened by 5:30 a.m., state police said.
