The Foster Avenue bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River will close Wednesday for a rehabilitation project, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The bridge will be fully closed to traffic, pedestrians and bicyclists until sometime in the fall, according to IDOT.

Westbound traffic on Foster will be directed south to Pulaski Avenue, west on Lawrence Avenue and north on Cicero Avenue and back to Foster, according to IDOT. Eastbound traffic on Foster will take the reverse route.

The rehabilitation will include partial removal and replacement of the bridge deck, according to IDOT.

Drivers should expect delays and allow extra time for trips through the area.
