The online retailer Amazon.com Inc. says it’s opening another new facility in Illinois where workers will pack and ship customer orders.

Amazon.com officials said Monday that the 850,000-square-foot facility will be in south suburban Monee. Amazon.com has recently announced plans to open facilities in Joliet, Edwardsville and Romeoville and hire thousands of workers. The company’s release didn’t specify how many people would work at the Monee site.

The company has said that more than 2,000 jobs would be located in Joliet and 1,000 jobs in Edwardsville.

Akash Chauhan is vice president of Amazon’s North America operations. Chauhan says the company’s expansion in Illinois “is directly tied to our increasing customer demand.” Chauhan says the company builds shipping centers near its customers.
