Three people were killed and at least five others wounded in gunfire across Chicago on Wednesday, according to police.
The latest fatal shooting happened just before midnight in Austin on the West Side.
A 23-year-old man got into a fight with a person who pulled out a gun and shot him repeatedly in the 1300 block of North Lockwood, police said.
He was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park where he later died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately confirm the death.
Another man was shot to death in the same neighborhood about 7:50 p.m.
The 21-year-old was outside in the 4900 block of West Hubbard when someone riding a bicycle shot him several times, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died.
Wednesday’s other fatal shooting was also its first, which happened about 5:45 p.m. in Belmont Cragin on the Northwest Side.
Two teenage boys were outside in the 6100 block of West Fullerton when a gunman walked up and opened fire, police said.
The boys, ages 15 and 16, were both taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where the older boy died. The younger boy was listed in critical condition early Thursday.
The medical examiner’s office confirmed those two fatal shootings but did not release more details pending family notification.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about 10:40 p.m. in Auburn Gresham on the South Side, on the same street where two people were wounded in a separate attack a day earlier.
Two 17-year-old boys were getting into a vehicle in the 8300 block of South Kerfoot when someone walked up and started shooting, police said.
One of the boys was shot in the head and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. His condition wasn’t immediately known. The other was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition with a leg wound, police said.
Minutes earlier, a 15-year-old boy was shot several times in the South Side Oakland neighborhood. He was in the 3600 block of South Rhodes about 10:35 p.m. when someone got out of a silver Pontiac and fired shots, striking him “in the pelvic area” several times, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Less than an hour before that, a 33-year-old man was shot in the leg in Armour Square on the South Side. He was getting into a vehicle about 9:40 p.m. in the 200 block of West 37th Street when someone walked up and fired, police said. He drove himself to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, where he was in good condition early Thursday. Police said the shooting might have been gang-related.
Wednesday’s gun violence followed the attacks that left 12 people wounded across the city on Tuesday.
