A traffic stop on a vehicle with expired registration in northwest suburban Woodstock on Sunday led to drug charges after 17 pounds of marijuana was found in the vehicle.
A police officer conducted the traffic stop at 6:31 p.m. on U.S. Route 14 at Dean Street, according to a statement from Woodstock police. The officer reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle and requested a K-9 unit. The drug-sniffing dog alerted to the vehicle’s truck, where officers found a large duffle bag containing the marijuana.
Philip M. Williams, 31, of the 2200 block of South Country Club Road in Woodstock was charged with a felony count of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver over 5,000 grams, according to police. Williams was also issued citations for not having valid vehicle registration and not having proof of insurance.
Williams appeared in court Wednesday morning, where his bail was set at $300,000, police said.
