A 54-year-old man was shot late Wednesday during an attempted robbery in north suburban Skokie.

About 10:15 p.m., police responding to a call of an armed robbery in the 4300 block of Oakton found the man had been shot in both legs after struggling with two would-be robbers, according to a statement on the Skokie Police Department’s Facebook page.

He was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The two suspects were described as 18 to 20-year-old black men wearing hooded sweatshirts, police said. They were last seen getting into a vehicle and driving eastbound on Oakton.

Police said the victim had picked up a family member from work near Dempster Street and Bronx Avenue before traveling to Oakton.
