A man was seriously wounded in a shooting Monday in the West Side South Lawndale neighborhood.

The 23-year-old was shot in the leg about 10:28 a.m. in the 2600 block of West 23rd Place, according to Chicago Police.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, police said.

Additional details were not immediately available.

Shermain Sargent, 41, is accused of beating Timothy Ash, 74, on Jan. 7 in the 6400 block of South King Drive. Ash died Jan. 12 of injuries suffered from the assault, the medical examiner reported.
