An Iowa man died Sunday morning after he fell while working at a construction site in southwest suburban Crest Hill.

Fernando V. Gamez, 42, fell from a beam while performing decking work on a building for Rich Products in the 21000 block of Division Street in Crest Hill, according to the Will County coroner’s office.

Gamez, of Sioux City, Iowa, was pronounced dead at 10:51 a.m. at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, according to the coroner’s office.

An autopsy for Gamez is scheduled for Tuesday.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Crest Hill police and Ortner Construction out of Danbury, Iowa, are investigating the incident. Ortner Construction was inspected by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Peoria office in 2014 and was cited for lack of frequent and regular inspections of the job site and for equipment, materials and employees not standing firmly on the floor of an aerial lift.
