The investigation is ongoing after suspicious materials were discovered in a room at a hotel in northwest suburban Rosemont, forcing an evacuation Thursday night.

About 4:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to the fire in a guest room at the Hampton Inn & Suites, 9480 W. Higgins Road, according to a statement from the Rosemont Public Safety Department.

The fire was extinguished by the time firefighters arrived, but they found “suspicious materials” inside the room that prompted them to evacuate the 158-room hotel, police said. Hotel personnel and guests were hosed down once they exited the building.

One person requested to be taken to a hospital, according to the statement. The other guests were taken to nearby hotels while crews cleared the scene.

The materials were not found to be hazardous and were turned over to Illinois State Police to be tested and analyzed, according to the statement.

Two people who were initially taken into custody were released without charges pending the investigation, which is ongoing, police said Tuesday morning.
