A 24-year-old woman died after crashing a car into a tree early Sunday in north suburban Wadsworth.

The 2004 Nissan Altima was heading north on Green Bay Road near Taylor Lane a few minutes before 2 a.m. when the car left the road and struck a tree on the west side of Green Bay Road, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

The driver, Miriam Gomez, of the 600 block of 8th Street in Waukegan, had to be extricated from the car, according to the sheriff’s office.

She was taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan and pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigations Unit is looking into the crash.
