A wanted sex offender was arrested Tuesday in north suburban Waukegan.

Sean M. Dowd, 23, was wanted on a $250,000 arrest warrant charging violation of the sex offender registration act, and a $250,00 failure to appear warrant charging aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office. He had avoided arrest since October 2016.

On Tuesday, the Lake County sheriff’s Warrants Team and the U.S Marshals Service – Great Lakes Regional Task Force developed information about Dowd’s whereabouts.

Authorities found him in the basement of a home in the 500 block of Archer Avenue in Waukegan, according to the sheriff’s office.

Dowd, of the 100 block of Nasa Circle in Round Lake, was taken into custody and transported to the Lake County Jail.

The driver, 41, was in good condition with a cut to the head, police said.
No charges have been announced for the suspect after the alleged assault which happened about 9:30 p.m. in the first block of West Jackson Boulevard, police said.
No one was injured but fear of a leak caused staffers to be evacuated from nearby businesses, fire officials said.
The woman was estimated to be in her 30s, police said.
