A 20-year-old man was shot to death Monday afternoon in the West Elsdon neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Officers responding to a shooting about 4:30 p.m. found Giovanni Lopez on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the lower body near 51st Street and Ridgeway Avenue, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Lopez, who lived in the 3600 block of West 81st Place, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:41 p.m., authorities said.

No one was in custody for the shooting Tuesday as Area Central detectives conducted a homicide investigation.
