Man charged in Harvey shooting killed 1 woman, wounded another

Deshawn Brown | Harvey police

One woman was killed and another was critically wounded in a shooting Friday night in south suburban Harvey.

Teyatta Holmes, 19, and a 22-year-old woman were sitting in a car and talking with two other males when one of them opened fire on the two women, according to Harvey spokesman Sean Howard and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Holmes, a Lansing resident, was shot in the head and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she died at 10:48 p.m. Friday, according to the medical examiner’s office. Her death was ruled a homicide.

The other victim suffered a gunshot wound to the body and remains in “critical but stable” condition at a hospital, Howard said.

Deshawn Brown, 23, was identified as the shooter and charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder, Howard said.

“We’re confident that this was an isolated situation,” Howard said. “We don’t think there’s any immediate risk to the general public whatsoever.”
