A man has been charged with DUI after the SUV he was driving early Saturday crashed into the median on Lake Shore Drive and overturned.

John Ondrey Gruber, 28, faces one misdemeanor count of DUI and was also issued citations for operating a motor vehicle without insurance, negligent driving, failure to reduce speed and failure to keep inside lanes, according to Chicago Police.

About 1:10 a.m., Gruberwas driving a 2008 Jeep south on Lake Shore Drive near Monroe Drive “at a high rate of speed” when he lost control and smashed into the median, police said. The Jeep then overturned following the impact.

Hewas taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said. No other injuries were reported.

Gruber, of Shaker Heights, Ohio, was scheduled to appear in court Jan. 17.
