A man was seriously wounded early Sunday when he was shot in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood.

The 36-year-old was walking on a sidewalk at 2:23 a.m. when someone walked up to him in the 5500 block of South State and fired shots, according to Chicago Police.

He showed up at Provident Hospital and was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said. He was being treated for a gunshot wound to the chest.

No on was in custody. Area Central detectives were investigating.

The four boys were on the front porch of a residence in the 7300 block of South Union Avenue when someone fired shots, police said.
The district and teachers’ union have negotiated all summer in hopes of avoiding the contentious battles of the past two years over pandemic safety.
