A man has been charged with stabbing a man who died of his wounds five days later in northwest Indiana.

Just after 3 a.m. on Dec. 14, officers found Marchon Moss, 24, sitting on a couch in a home in the 2500 block of Riverside Drive in Lake Station, bleeding from stab wounds in several parts of his body, according to Lake Station police Capt. Brian Williams and the Lake County coroner’s office.

Moss, who lived in Merrillville, was taken to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus in Gary, where he was pronounced dead at 7:02 p.m. Tuesday, the coroner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Witnesses told officers that a suspect had run away before police arrived, Williams said. Officers later found a knife with blood on it in the home.

On Monday, 23-year-old Allen Orange of Lake Station, was taken into custody on an active warrant for failure to appear and to be questioned about the stabbing, Williams said.

On Tuesday, before Moss had died, Orange was charged with attempted murder and three felony counts of battery, Williams said.

When Moss died later that night, police and the Lake County Prosecutor’s office began working to change the charges.

Anybody with information about the case was asked to call Lake Station police at (219) 962-1186 and ask to speak with a detective, or e-mail Capt. Brian Williams directly at bwilliams@lakestation-in.gov.
