A woman was punched then sexually assaulted Friday morning in the Near West Side Ukrainian Village neighborhood.

The 31-year-old was standing at a bus stop about 6:20 a.m. in the 2200 block of West Chicago Avenue when a male suspect walked up to her, punched her in the face and took her cell phone, according to Chicago Police.

He then grabbed the woman, pulled her into a gangway across the street and sexually assaulted her, police said. He ran away west on Chicago Avenue.

She was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital, according to police. Her condition wasn’t known.

A detailed description of the suspect wasn’t available.
