A woman was found stabbed to death Tuesday afternoon in west suburban River Grove.

River Grove police officers were called to the 8800 block of Wrightwood Avenue about 1:40 p.m. to check on the well-being of a resident, according to a statement posted on the Village of River Grove website.

They found 44-year-old Marisal Hernandez stabbed to death inside the home, according to the village and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Wednesday found she died of multiple sharp force injuries, and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

“At this time this is believed to be an isolated incident with no immediate danger to the surrounding community,” the village posted.

The West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is investigating.
