An 80-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle Saturday night in northwest suburban Rosemont.

Ronald J. Cummings was in the street about 9:15 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle that was eastbound in the 9500 block of West Higgins Road, according to Rosemont police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. There is no crosswalk at the site where the crash happened.

Cummings was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead at 10:51 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. He lived in the Norwood Park neighborhood on Chicago’s Northwest Side.

An autopsy Sunday found he died of multiple injuries from being struck by a motor vehicle, and his death was ruled an accident.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
