A 16-year-old boy died nine hours after he was shot Wednesday in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.

Darmayah Smith was walking at 6:23 p.m. in the 11000 block of South Edbrooke when someone approached him on foot and opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He suffered gunshot wounds to the torso and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Smith, who lived three blocks away from where he was shot, was pronounced dead at 3:58 a.m. on Thursday, authorities said.

No one was in custody.
