Man fatally shot in East Side

A 24-year-old man was fatally shotSunday night in the East Side neighborhood on the Far South Side.

Alfonso Juan Calderon Jr.was standing in a vacant lot about 8:15 p.m. in the 10700 block of South Green Bay when he was approached by two males who fired shots at him and ran off, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Calderon Jr. suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, arm and hand, and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 9:07 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the Hegewisch neighborhood on the Far South Side.

Area South detectives were investigating.

Jayden Higgs, 23, was shot in the head on Thursday in Back of the Yards. Raymond Comer, a 37-year-old felon, was struck multiple times on Friday when an officer fired 11 shots on the Near West Side. They both remained hospitalized.
The boy was near a sidewalk about 4:05 p.m. in the 13100 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue when he was shot in the chest.
