A 66-year-old man was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation after an eight-hour standoff with police Thursday morning in the South Side Avalon Park neighborhood.

A SWAT team responded about 4:45 a.m. to a man barricaded alone inside a home in the 8200 block of South Dante, according to Chicago Police. It was not known if he was armed.

Police said the man was detained without incident about 1:30 p.m. that day. He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

As of Sunday morning, no charges had been filed in connection with the incident, police said.
