A full closure is underway on northbound Route 83, north of Interstate 290 after a driver was injured in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon near northwest suburban Bensenville.

Northbound 83 is closed just north of I-290, the Illinois Department of Transportation said. Traffic is being diverted to Lake Street, eastbound I-290 and westbound I-290.

The following additional closures are also in place:

• ramp from eastbound I-290 to northbound Route 83;

• ramp from westbound I-290 to northbound Route 83; and

• left turn lane from southbound Route 83 to east frontage

The closures are expected to continue throughout the afternoon rush, IDOT said. Northbound 83 will reopen to one lane Tuesday evening. Drivers should expect delays.

The crash between a passenger vehicle and two commercial vehicles happened about 12:30 p.m. at Route 83 and Frontage Road, according to the DuPage County sheriff’s office.

One of the drivers, a 25-year-old man, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where his condition was stabilized, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Felony Investigative Assistance Team is at the scene. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Det. Jeff Leonard at (630) 407-2400.
