A 27-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the arm early Sunday in the Chinatown neighborhood on the South Side.

About 3:35 a.m., the man was attempting to secure a handgun inside a vehicle in the 2400 block of South Canal when the weapon accidentally discharged, striking him in the left arm, according to Chicago Police. Investigators later recovered the handgun.

He was taken to Rush University Medical Center and later transferred to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
