A 14-year-old girl died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Tuesday afternoon in the Hegewisch neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The girl suffered a gunshot wound about 12:30 p.m. in the 12700 block of South Exchange, Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy Wednesday found she died of gunshot wound to the head and her death was ruled a suicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.
