A man was slain in a Fernwood neighborhood drive-by shooting late Thursday on the Far South Side, according to Chicago Police.

About 11:45 p.m., 41-year-old Jerry Austin was standing on a sidewalk in the 10100 block of South LaSalle when someone in a vehicle shot him in the chest and hand, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Austin lived in the Far South Side Riverdale neighborhood.

The attack was considered gang-related, and no one was in custody early Friday, police said.
