A man remains in critical condition after a shooting early Sunday in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The 46-year-old victim was walking on the sidewalk about 3:45 a.m. in the 2700 block of West 55th Street when a male suspect walked up to him and shot him in the head, according to Chicago Police.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

Police initially said the victim had died.
