Three teens have been charged with trying to carjack a 69-year-old man late Tuesday in the Southwest Side Gage Park neighborhood.

One 16-year-old boy and two 15-year-old boys were each charged with one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking, according to Chicago Police. Their names were not released because they are juveniles.

The 69-year-old victim was sitting in his parked car with the window down in the 2900 block of West 59th Street at 11:42 p.m. Tuesday when the three teens approached, police said.

One of the teens, armed with a handgun, struck the victim in the face and pulled him out of the vehicle, police said. As the teens got into the victim’s car, a struggle broke out and the victim pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the armed teen in the back.

The suspects got out of the man’s car and ran away, taking his car keys with them, police said.

Knowing one of the suspects was wounded, officers went to Holy Cross Hospital, where they found the boys, who had gone to the hospital seeking treatment for the one who was stabbed.

The wounded teen suffered a stab wound to the torso and was transferred to Mount Sinai in good condition, police said.

The victim suffered a cut above his left eye and was treated at Holy Cross Hospital.
