A 58-year-old man was fatally struck by a truck early Monday near O’Hare International Airport on the Northwest Side.

Carmen Peterson was walking east in the middle of the road in the 11500 block of West Irving Park about 12:40 a.m. when he was hit by a truck heading in the same direction, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Peterson was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead at 1:43 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. He lived in the Irving Park neighborhood.

An autopsy found he died of multiple injuries and his death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The 64-year-old man driving the truck stopped to render aid and called authorities after the crash, police said. He was cited for failure to exercise due care with a pedestrian in the roadway.
