Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting of a 19-year-old woman who ended up in northwest suburban Park Ridge on Monday morning.

Officers responded at 8:45 a.m. to a person shot in the 100 block of North Meacham Avenue, according to Park Ridge police.

They found a 19-year-old Lake County woman with a gunshot wound to the right leg, police said. She was treated at the scene before being taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have not been able to verify the location of the shooting, the exact nature of the shooting or a description of the suspect based on information provided by the woman and her companion, a 19-year-old man, Deputy Police Chief Duane Mellema said in an email.

However, investigators do not believe the shooting happened in the 100 block of North Meacham, Mellema said. There is no threat to the public.
