CFD: Man dies after jumping into Chicago River by Trump Tower

A 24-year-old man died early Saturday after he jumped into the Chicago River downtown in front of Trump Tower.

Officers responded a call of a person in the water at 2:04 a.m. near the 400 block of North Wabash, according to Chicago Police.

A Marine Unit diver pulled him out of the water, and paramedics performed CPR, police and the Chicago Fire Department said.

Fire officials said he had jumped into the river to swim. The water temperature was about 63 degrees.

The man, identified as Timothy J. Ermon, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died at 3:19 a.m., police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Ermon lived in the Beverly neighborhood on the Far South Side.

An autopsy Sunday did not immediately rule on the cause or manner of his death, pending further studies, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Area Central detectives were conducting a death investigation.
