A 78-year-old woman was killed and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in far western Kane County.

About 11:30 a.m., a 2015 Nissan was traveling east on Plank Road, west of Route 47, in unincorporated Plato Township when it crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 2004 Acura traveling in the opposite direction, according to the Kane County sheriff’s office.

The woman driving the Acura, 78-year-old Susanne Cannella, was taken to a hospital, where she died, according to the sheriff’s office. She lived in northwest suburban Itasca.

The driver and passenger of the Nissan were also taken to hospitals, where the driver, a 23-year-old Elgin woman, was being treated for life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said. The passenger, a 23-year-old Elgin man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Both remain hospitalized Thursday morning.

Plank Road was closed for about four hours for the investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.
