A man was shot Wednesday afternoon in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

The 37-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 700 block of South Independence at 1:28 p.m. when a male walked up and fired shots before running away, according to Chicago Police.

The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.
