A man was critically wounded Thursday afternoon in a shooting on the Near West Side.

At 2:58 p.m., the 25-year-old was sitting in the 200 block of South Western Avenue when someone came up to him, started shooting and he was struck in his head, Chicago Police said.

He took himself to Stroger Hospital, where he was in critical condition, police said.
