A woman was fatally struck by a freight train early Thursday in Barrington, causing delays on Metra’s Union Pacific Northwest Line throughout the morning commute.

Svetlana Petrovska, 49, was struck by the Canadian National train at 2:38 a.m. near the Barrington Station, 201 S. Spring St., according to Metra and the Barrington Police Department.

Police said the incident is being investigated as a suicide. Petrovska lived in Elk Grove Village, authorities said.
