A man died Wednesday morning after being critically wounded in an Austin neighborhood shooting the night before.

Robert Thornton, 32, was standing outside about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday on a sidewalk in the 5400 block of West Rice when someone in a white vehicle fired shots, according to Chicago Police.

Thornton was struck in his chest and right leg, police said. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead at 7:06 a.m. Wednesday.

Thornton lived in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

Area North detectives were investigating.
