Two people were found dead Friday evening inside a home in north suburban Gurnee, and the case appears to be a domestic murder-suicide, according to officials.
Gurnee police responded to a “domestic situation” about 5:30 p.m. at a home in the 4200 block of Harper Avenue, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.
The found two men dead in the house, the sheriff’s office said.
The men have been identified as 50-year-old Ozell Sampson Jr. and 30-year-old Tony Butler Jr., both of Gurnee, according to the Lake County coroner’s office.
“Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Mr. Sampson died from multiple gunshot wounds and Mr. Butler died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said in a statement.
Authorities earlier called it “a contained incident.”
Gurnee Police Chief Kevin Woodside said in the statement, “This was a domestic situation and a tragedy for the family involved. This incident poses no danger to the community and our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
