A man died Thursday night after he was assaulted and shot in south suburban Dixmoor.

Officers responded about 8:15 p.m. Thursday to a home in the first block of 141st Street and found Michael Davis, 41, unresponsive inside the home and covered in blood, Dixmoor police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Davis, who lived at the home, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:27 p.m., authorities said.

An autopsy found Davis suffered a gunshot wound to the head and blunt force injuries to the head in an assault, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

There were no signs of forced entry to the home, police said. Investigators found liquor bottles and possible signs of a struggle. The investigation was ongoing and police declined to release more information. No one was in custody as of Saturday afternoon.
