No charges filed in fatal domestic shooting in Clearing

A suspect has been released in connection with the fatal shooting of 33-year-old man Sunday morning in the Clearing neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

At 5:18 a.m., a 30-year-old woman was being battered by Damien Hernandez in the 6900 block of West 65th Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The woman pulled out a gun and shot him three times, police said.

Hernandez, who lived on the same block, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Police called the incident a “domestic” situation. The woman was taken into custody after the shooting, but was released without being charged with a crime, police said Tuesday morning.
