Coroner: Man falls to his death in Joliet

A man fell to his death Saturday in southwest suburban Joliet, the coroner’s office said.

Officers responded about 7:50 a.m. to a report of a man down in the gravel lot behind the Rialto Square Theatre building in the 100 block of North Scott Street, according to Joliet police.

Jacob Iovino, 25, was found lying on the ground under the ladder that leads from the Rialto building fire escape up to the roof, police and the Will County coroner’s office said. He had no pulse and appeared to have been bleeding from the head.

Iovino, who lived in Homer Glen, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:40 a.m., the coroner’s office said. Preliminary autopsy results Saturday revealed that he died of multiple injuries he suffered in a fall from a height. The final cause and manner of death will be determined at a later date, pending police, autopsy and toxicological reports.

Police said there were no obvious signs of foul play.
